Jill Pangallo One of the things that I hope that my artwork does is help people think about what art is. And that's something I struggle with every day and I talk about this context thing, art context versus entertainment context. And I really want my work to kind of make people think about what makes a piece of artwork art. My name is Jill Pangallo, I'm currently working on Note to Self with Jill. Note to self is a project that I began almost a year ago. A friend of mine gave me a catalog, I can best describe this catalog, as a, it's a doll company, you send in your photos, three photos of your child, and in return you get back a doll that looks exactly like your child. Well, that's what I got back. And so Jill's been with me for several months now. We've been working together, and we've amassed a large wardrobe of matching outfits. And we go out every once in a while, and we also work at home, we do video, video exploration of our relationship, basically. Part of what I do with these characters is explore a fantasy life, you know, and instead of writing about it, I get to, you know, I choose to embody it. With Jill I'm trying to combine those two things, combine video and performance in one piece. For me, utilizing humor in my performance is really important. I would say it's kind of my default, it's what I feel comfortable doing, it's what I feel I can communicate with. With performance it's really, I can be present in my artwork, it can be funny at the same time that it suggests something dark or weird. I'm not going to lie, I like applause and I like laughter, but more so I like confusing them. Song: We have more fun, twice the fun of anyone, we have more fun, twice the fun of anyone. Jill and I's relationship is, it's like talking to myself, it's like talking to my child, it's like talking to my best friend, and every once in a while, it's like I'm talking to a doll.
